ESTA Norway Conference

A day of seminars arranged by the Norwegian division of the European String Teachers Association (ESTA). The seminars are for string teachers and string students alike.

Programme to include:
Victoria Johnsen – Exploring new sounds with the electric violin
Eva Wedin - Motoric skills, rhythm and instrumental teaching. - Is it a musical or a motoric problem?
Are Sandbakken - Chamber music - demonstration teaching
Hilde Sponberg Hansen - motivation and fun in cello playing

Exhibition - Ole Bull Guarneri del Gesù Project

10.00 - 19.00h

Internationally renowned violin maker, restorer and dealer Christophe Landon is organising this exciting project around Ole Bull's famous Guarneri del Gesù violin. Violinmakers from around the world are invited to make a copy of the ‘Ole Bull’ 1744 Guarneri del Gesù violin. The copies may not only be looked at - theye are there to be played by competitors, students and visiting violinists.

The instruments can also be heard in concert.

Also on show will be a selection of Hardanger fiddles from the collection of Kjell Chr. Midtgaard, among them an instrument by Erik Johnsen Helland from 1862. One instrument will also be available for playing.

Throughout human history it has been our nature to define best, also within music. How important are music competitions, and do they have any significance for a future career?

Music related dialogue combined with an opportunity to enjoy our soup of the day! Open for music lovers, musicians, music students and music teachers.

The dialogue will be held in Norwegian.

Menuhin Competition - Junior Finals - Part 1

14.00-17.00h 

  

Join the all star jury in their search for the very best violin virtuosos. Be live in the concert hall and witness some stunning performances. Enjoy the incredibly varied and exciting repertoire designed to test the skills of each player and be the first to know the winners.

8 Junior finalists will play to jury and audiences in Part 1 of the two-part Junior Finals. Each competitor performs a 30 minute programme with their choice of the following works:

First Movement of their chose Sonata for violin and piano by Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms or Schuhman

The first violin in one of the following two Dvorak trios:
A. DVORAK Terzetto in C major, Op.74, Introduzione: Allegro ma non troppo and Larghetto
A. DVORAK Terzetto in C major, Op.74, Scherzo: Vivace and Thema con variazioni

Candidates will be accompanied in the trio by:

Anders Kjellberg Nilsson, violin
Ida Bryhn, viola

Mathias Eick Quartet

21:00 (doors open 20:00)

During the last years Mathias Eick has achieved great success as one of Norway's top jazz artist. At the age of 27, the young trumpeter recieved the IJFP International Jazz Award for New Talent in 2007. Mathias Eick is a multiinstrumental talent, playing both the trumpet, double bass and vibraphone with excellence. He is an eclectic musician, finding inspiration in different genres and unafraid to find his own musical path.
